Why buy used test equipment?

Why? Price? Compatibility? Functionality? Replacement? Let’s look at the decision of buying used test equipment.

Cost is generally a function of purchase plus time. Cost of buying new then is x (+ y (time in familiarisation)+ z (time in getting ready for purpose)).

How do I feel when I see there’s an opportunity for a new software upgrade on my IT devices?

Nervous and primed that although new functionality will avail itself to me I’m going to have to spend time in educating myself in it.

Simplified that is Cost of new with a percentage discount. No add on costs. A real bargain if purchased with confidence.

So it’s not just the attractiveness of the list price and knowing you’ll get a discount because it is second user. It is that confidence and familiarisation in your measurement that you are buying too. Minimising disruption and maximising efficiency. Two excellent goals.
